  • WABI SABI JIU JITSU GYM RULES, ETIQUETTE, & WAIVER

Welcome to WABI SABI JIU JITSU. To ensure a safe, respectful, and focused training environment, we kindly ask all members and visitors to adhere to the following gym rules and etiquette. These guidelines help maintain the cleanliness, safety, and integrity of our training space.

    Footwear Policy:

    • No Outdoor Footwear Beyond the Front Area: To preserve the cleanliness of our mats and training areas, outdoor shoes must be removed immediately upon entering the facility. Designated shoe racks are provided for your convenience.
    • Appropriate Footwear in Changing Areas: While in the changing rooms, please ensure you wear indoor footwear such as flip-flops or sandals. Walking barefoot in these areas is strictly prohibited to prevent the spread of bacteria and maintain hygiene standards.

    Hygiene & Grooming:

    • Daily Personal Hygiene: Ensure that you shower and maintain good personal hygiene before attending class. This includes using deodorant and washing hands thoroughly. Cleanliness is crucial for preventing the spread of germs and maintaining a comfortable environment for everyone.
    • Clean Uniforms: All training uniforms (gi or no-gi) must be clean, free of odors, and washed after each class. Dirty uniforms are not only unpleasant but can also spread bacteria.
    • No Strong Scents: Please avoid wearing strong perfumes or colognes, as some individuals may be sensitive to strong odors.
    • Foot Hygiene: Keep your feet clean, dry, and free of any infections. If you have any foot conditions (such as athlete’s foot), take appropriate measures to treat them before participating in class.
    • Cover Open Wounds: Any cuts, abrasions, or open wounds must be properly cleaned and covered with a bandage or athletic tape before training, to prevents the risk of infection and keeps others safe.
    • Nails Must Be Trimmed Before Class: For the safety and comfort of all participants, ensure your fingernails and toenails are short and well-groomed before stepping onto the mats, to prevents accidental scratches and injuries.

    Mat Etiquette:

    • Respect the Mats: The training mats are sacred in jiujitsu. Please bow before entering and upon leaving the mat area as a sign of respect. No shoes are allowed on the mats at any time. Always keep the mat area clean and free of debris.
    • No Food or Drink on the Mats: To prevent spills and maintain cleanliness, food and beverages are not permitted on the mats. Hydration should be done off the mats.

    Training Etiquette:

    • Armbar Mat Etiquette: When practicing armbars or any other submissions, always apply techniques with control and caution. Tap early and often to avoid injury, and immediately release your hold when your partner taps. Safety and mutual respect are paramount.
    • Respect Your Training Partners: Always be considerate of your partner’s safety and well-being. Training should be cooperative, not competitive. Communicate with your partner to ensure a positive and safe experience for both.
    • No Rough Play: Roughhousing or overly aggressive behavior is not tolerated. Jiujitsu is about skill and technique, not brute force.

    General Gym Conduct:

    • Punctuality: Arrive on time for class. If you are late, wait at the edge of the mat and seek permission from the instructor before joining the session.
    • Respect the Instructor: Follow the instructor’s guidance and instructions at all times. If you have questions, ask respectfully at an appropriate moment.
    • Clean Up After Yourself: Dispose of any trash, water bottles, or personal items in the designated areas. Help us keep the gym clean and organized.

    Health & Safety:

    • Report Injuries: If you sustain an injury, whether minor or serious, inform your instructor immediately. Do not continue training if you are injured.
    • Stay Home if Unwell: If you are feeling unwell or have symptoms of illness, please refrain from attending class until you are fully recovered to prevent spreading sickness to others.

    Assumption of Risk:
I voluntarily and knowingly assume all risks associated with participating in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and fitness classes, including injuries sustained from falls, collisions, or contact with other participants, and any injuries arising from the use or misuse of the equipment or facilities. I acknowledge that BJJ involves intense physical exertion and that I am voluntarily participating with full knowledge of the risks involved and all presumed risks.

    Release of Liability:
In consideration of being allowed to participate in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes and fitness activities, I, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, hereby release, waive, and discharge Wabi Sabi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Inc. operating as WABI SABI JIU JITSU; their owners, instructors, employees, agents, and representatives (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all claims, demands, liabilities, and causes of action of any kind or nature whatsoever, arising out of or related to any loss, damage, injury, or death that may be sustained by me, or to any property belonging to me, while participating in BJJ, events and fitness activities or while on the premises, even if arising from the negligence of the Released Parties, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

    Indemnification:
I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any and all claims, demands, liabilities, and causes of action of any kind or nature whatsoever, arising out of or related to my participation in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and fitness activities or my use of the premises or equipment, including any claims arising from my own negligence or misconduct, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
